Little Chriss Crochet

Hi everyone! My name is Tanya Christina Kay Toogood aka Chriss, and I have been crocheting for 27 year's now and I feel now that I could pass on some of my skills onto  you!

Name Plaque for Baby room

When I was 17 my mum taught me how to  create my name in a block. This was done by simple trebles in a block form and omitting stitches to create the name starting from the bottom up 'A' first the 'Y' and so on this would make a nice baby plaque for their room.
I will post pictures and step by step instructions as I progress in making a new one for this blog. You can do this for any name but obviously the longer the name the taller it will be.

examples of graphing your letters.

Materials:- Any wool/cotton (but think of how big you want
your name plaque to be! Chunky wool will be very big and 3ply cotton will be small..)

Hook size your choice to fit the size of wool/cotton your using.

Start with 18 chain and Please make sure you start with the last letter first from the bottom of it shape.

now this is the hard bit.... depending on what letter you start with will depend on what stitches to miss by doing 2ch instead of trebles next to stitches in your next row.

Letter formation
'A' would be as follows:-

row 1    insert hook 4th chain from hook. work trebles till the  end 16 st's. including 3ch at the beginning.

row 2    3ch 3tr.   2ch miss 2 tr.  4tr.  2ch miss 2tr.  4tr. turn

row 3     3ch 3tr.  2ch miss 2ch.  4tr.  2ch miss 2ch.  4tr. turn

row 4   3ch 3tr. 2ch miss 2ch.  1tr. 2tr. into next chain space. 1tr. 2ch miss 2ch.  4tr. turn

row 5   3ch 3tr.  2ch miss 2ch.  1tr.  2ch 1tr. miss 2ch. 1tr.  2ch miss 2ch.  4tr. turn

row 6    3ch 3tr. 2ch miss 2ch.  1tr. 2tr. into next chain space. 1tr. 2ch miss 2ch.  4tr. turn

row 7   3ch 3tr. 2tr. into next chain space. 1tr. 2tr. into next chain space. 1tr.  4tr. turn.

Creating your letters is by omitting the trebles to form the shape. I would suggest that you use graph paper to help you.
Here is a diagram to show you how your 'A' should look like.. (sorry for the text in the picture. Learning how to use sketch pad.).

Once you have decided on a name and you have finished the name on one continuous peace then you can decide on a trim to do a boarder all the way round it!
Press then put into a frame with a colour card of your choice behind it to emphasise the letters.
You may have to get a frame specially made for the size of you peace of work...might be pricey in some areas but I think its worth it for that special gift.

As you can see from the picture....the 'A' formation is wider than my suggested way! So you can do it hoe ever you want to make it look good.

please post pictures of your finished work on my Facebook page
